I don’t think this really counts as baking, necessarily, but it’s a favorite of Juliet’s and I’ve been promising to make it since Friday night. And she was determined to help, which always makes it more fun.
The first time I made this, I had it all mixed together and then I glanced over at the counter and saw a giant measuring cup full of Cheerios I’d forgotten to add. D’oh! This time I was more careful.
There are only three ingredients to this delicious concoction: butter, mini marshmallows, and the amazing, fairly recently invented Peanut Butter Cheerios. Honestly just by themselves, the Peanut Butter Cheerios are a great treat. Forget the milk, forget the bowl, you can eat them right out of the box. While watching tv. At midnight.
But Juliet wanted the full desserty version, so off we went.
We needed 6 cups of Peanut Butter Cheerios, so Juliet got the first 4 ready to pour. Then she added the last two cups.
Then she readied the marshmallows.
Actually, it’s sort of worth a close-up so you can see her wacky nail polish.
I melted two tablespoons of butter in a large saucepan, and Juliet poured in the marshmallows.
I let her stir for a while, keeping a close eye on her as I was worried she was going to touch the hot pan. Kids her age have almost no sense of self-preservation.
She actually stepped away when the marshmallows started melting. She thought they were gross!
She came back when I added in the Cheerios, but was a little put off when they started looking like they were stuck in a big spider web.
I spread it in the pan. Look how sticky it is!
And here’s Juliet, eating. Too busy eating to smile, in fact.
